Height: 5'6", 168 cm

Date of Birth: April 23

Birth Place: Brooklyn, New York

NHL Team: New York Rangers

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Miranda's first time on the ice was skating as a seventh grader with a high school team in Skateland, the former Rangers' practice facility. On her first shift, she fell going for the puck and another player kicked her in the head ("No helmets then guys!"). So, with bloody gash and all, Miranda knew the game was for her ... and "her brains have never fully recovered."

Many years later in 2001, Miranda came to watch Brian Harrington play a game with the Rockets. It was love at first site and Miranda was hooked by the wonderful people involved with the team and NYCGHA. She subbed that season for the Rockets and the NY Lions. That summer Miranda played on the NY Lions in the four-on-four tournament, alternating skating forward and goaltending with Chris Brand.

That summer Miranda was also offered the coaching job for the Rockets. "I cry even now thinking how much I would have enjoyed coaching the great bunch of players that the Rockets have, but life takes us places sometimes on roads not wanting to be traveled." Because of work, Miranda reluctantly declined the offer and told her teammates and friends that she was heading south to Georgia for her job. She left October 2001.

Since moving to Atlanta, Miranda has played for Gay Hockey Atlanta's Lizard Kings as a forward and, in keeping with her tradition, has lead the league in both penalty minutes and assists. "Set them up (my teammates) and put them down (the opposition)!"

At every chance Miranda makes a trek north to rejoin her teammates here at Chelsea. "Both sets of equipment (forward and goaltender), my golf clubs, and enough dresses to cover a week's stay is a must for every trip." Miranda has also played for the NY Lions on several occasions and for travel teams at various tournaments. Most recently at Atlanta's first tournament. "It wasn't easy being hockey's version of Benedict Arnold. I tend to think that my new teammates in Atlanta played harder against me."

Miranda is thrilled to still be a part of NYCGHA -- it is in her blood and is taken aback each and every time she returns to the warm smiles, the fabulous hugs, and the wonderfully cold ice of Chelsea Piers hockey rinks. "With so many wonderful people, how could you stay away?" Some day Miranda vows to find a way to stay for good.

Miranda is closing in on her twentieth year working for the U.S. Air Force, and, being in transition, is trying to send the message to all her co-workers and teammates that though she is changing the cover of her "book" (look), it still contains the same person inside.
