Fall 2004 All-Star Games January 2, 2005
Forty-Three Represent NYCGHA in All-Star Games
Sky Rink held its annual All-Star Games on Sunday, January 2. The NY Lions led the Division 6 Blue-jersey All-Stars to a 3 to 1 victory. With Chris Brand in goal, Chris Prokop and Ray Stankes at center, and Charlie Mulkeen and Brian Harrington on defense, the Blue team dominated most of the game. Chris Brand earned a shut out for his half of the game, with the expert help of Charlie and Brian. To the delight of Lions' players and fans, Chris Prokop's goal, "a nice high wrist shot from the top of the right face-off circle," was against the Blast's goaltender. All-Stars from the Hornets, the Bombers and the Blue Bombers rounded out the Blue team.
The opposing Red team consisted of the best that the Blast, Marlins and Hurricanes had to offer. The Hurricanes were represented by Jeff Nagle and Eric Moon. The game was fast paced, exciting, and surprisingly low scoring.
Jim Bugenhagen provided Beer and Pizza after the game where victors and vanquished hung out watching the USA vs. Russia World Cup. Ray Stankes reports, "As usual, Charlie and I drank the other teams under the table."
"Well done Boys! You definitely did us proud," roars Lions' Captain Vinny Cericola.
In Division 7, the Wizards' team lost in its All-Star outing by 8-1. Vince Aita, Patrick Farabaugh and Brian Winkler played forward, while Jeff Kagan patrolled the blue line. None scored, due to outstanding play by replacement goaltenders from Division 8, Keenen Brown and Peter Tomasello.
Division 8 mixed-and-matched its All Stars, so that players faced-off against regular-season teammates. The Blue Team bested the Red Team by a score of 6 to 1.
Making up the Red Team were Hotshots: Dave Feldman, Mark Hulber, Ed Lawrence and Robb Riedel. The Polar Bears were JR Badian (1 goal), Debra Hrelja, Mike Nickey, Jerry Sanders, and goaltender Erik Sather. Rockets included Bill Gauthier, Michael Valenti, and Julia Ryan. Finally the Tigers' All Stars were Keith Champagne, Captain Bob Glasscock, Jonathan Richter, Ari Warshawsky, and Laurie Woods. JR Badian scored the only point for the Reds.
