Although Matt doesn't remember the actual games of the '74 and '75 Stanley cup finals, his favorite milk glass as a five year old was a beer mug commemorating the back-to-back championships of the Broad Street Bullies. Besides civic pride, the team's victorious seasons gave Matt the solace that even his heroes didn't have their two front teeth. Matt learned to skate in the back yard of his neighbor, a former pro player, who had dug out two rink-shaped ponds and would open them up on weekends to the public each Winter.
Matt didn't start playing hockey until a weekly clinic was offered at his college. From that time on he would look for pickup games wherever he lived, Pittsburgh, back home in Philly, Martha's Vineyard or Boston. When he reached NYC, Matt had the good fortune to meet "Mr. Gay Hockey himself," Jeff Kagan. Matt played with the association briefly in 1999 and returned for the Winter Season of 2003-4 to join his beloved upstart Polar Bears.
In 2005 Matt became a founding member of the Wild Turkeys -- much to the dismay of his friends on the Wizards.
Matt is consultant for a software design firm.
