Deborah "Debs" Francisco was formerly a staff writing intern for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Her articles regularly appeared in the Penguins game day program, Ice Time, and on PittsburghPenguins.com. She has written for InsideHockey.com, MVN.com and NHLgirl.com. She is a senior at The King's College in New York City where she studies Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) with a concentration in media. As a sophomore, she interned at Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Rangers, in the new media department.
Her love for hockey started at age 12 when her older brothers finally sat down to watch a Colorado Avalanche game with her and patiently taught her the rules of the game. The first NHL game she attended was a heated rivalry tilt between the Avalanche and the Red Wings at the Pepsi Center. Her parents couldn't afford for both Debs and her brother to play hockey so Debs started writing about hockey instead. She became the Los Alamos Monitor's beat writer for the Hilltoppers' ice-hockey team from 2002-2005. The Monitor eventually hired her as a freelance sportswriter. She finally started playing hockey in an adult pick-up league in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the summer of 2007. She currently resides in New York City."
