Blue Streak Update

With successful addition of Blue Streak to our instructional program during the January 7th Winter Session. We have decided to change up the enrollment options going foward for the program.

Players will now be given two choices for enrollment:

Option #1 - $450 - 13 on-ice instructional sessions only at Sky Rink
Option #2 - $600 - 13 on-ice instructional sessions at Sky Rink PLUS 3 off-ice training sessions at Blue Streak

The training sessions at Blue Streak will be on another day (not Wednesday) and group(s) will be formed based on enrollment.

A breath of very good news from the Coors Cup hockey tournament: Despite the economic recession, they've been able to retain Coors as a sponsor. The event, which moves between Los Angeles and Denver, is hosted by the Colorado Gay Ice Hockey Association and the Los Angeles Blades hockey club. They even give cash prizes to the winning teams! This year the event is Sept 4-7 in Denver. Kudos to the organizers, who obviously deliver results on the sponsorship, and to Coors for sticking with this great event.

The Colorado Gay Ice Hockey Association (CGIHA) and the Los Angeles Blades Ice Hockey Club today announced that MillerCoors has renewed its title sponsorship agreement with the Coors Cup, the world's only GLBT charity ice hockey tournament. Coors first signed as the title sponsor of the annual Coors Cup when the tournament was established jointly by the CGHIA and the Blades Ice Hockey Club in 2004.

"We are thrilled that MillerCoors, one of the premier brewers in the world, will continue its participation with the Coors Cup," CGIHA president Andrew Winsett said. "The company's enthusiastic support of the tournament has been invaluable to its enormous success and popularity."

"MillerCoors is proud to continue its association with the Coors Cup," MillerCoors regional general manager Paul Schmitt said. "We are excited to be part of such a well organized and successful event that honors diversity, sportsmanship, and philanthropy."

"MillerCoors' support ensures that the Coors Cup will continue to set the standard for GLBT athletic events," LA Blades Hockey director Brynne Van Putten.

The Coors Cup, which is staged annually over the Labor Day weekend and alternates between Denver and Los Angeles, awards prize money to charitable organizations selected by the winning teams in each of the tournament's divisions. To date the Coors Cup has awarded over $10,000. The tournament draws hockey players from across North America and has also attracted players from Europe.

The 2009 Coors Cup will take place September 4 - 7 at the Ice Centre at the Promenade in Westminster, Colo. More information is available at www.CoorsCup.com.

February 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th

Monday Night Pick-up Hockey

Hi all,

I'm organizing a regular pick up game Monday nights from 7-8:30 pm and looking for regular players who will committ for the whole year: March 9/09 through March 9/10, about 50 skates. Anyone who wants to sub can sign up on the google mailing list group listed below if interested but right now I'm only interested in players who want to buy a full share in ice time. All skill levels are welcome, we have D3 caliber players down to D8. Still need one goalie.

FEES AND SECURING YOUR SPOT:

If you pay up front, it's $1334 for forwards and half of that for goalies ($666.67). This money is due immediately. If you do not make a payment, you do not have a spot.

If you want to pay in installments, I've come up with this plan: you can pay $700 now, then the next payment of $350 will be due April 1 and the final payment of $350 will be due July 1 (half for goalies). It's about $76 extra, which I think is reasonable.

I'm putting together a mailing list group for walk ons that will pay for your spot anytime you can't make it. Anyone can join the list:

Subs pay the regulars directly $30 per skate. If you have a Paypal account, it can be done instantly before the game. From the response I've gotten, sounds like there are tons of walk-ons looking to play, but regulars can send anyone they want. If you have a friend who wants to come with you, email the list here and we'll give you priority for the open slot.

JERSEYS:

You are expected to bring a DARK and LIGHT jersey to every game. I will be splitting up teams every week to make it interesting. Don't be a pain in the ass and bring only one jersey, or I'll make you wear the most disgusting jersey in my locker. Trust me, you don't want that.

RULES:

This pick up skate is strictly "gentleman's rules" and is going to be fun for everyone. Any unsportsmanlike play (judged at my sole discretion) from anyone and I'll return a pro rated portion of your fee immediately and drop you. This includes hogging ice time, so you know, and basically any behaviour that generates complaints from the other players that gives me any unnecessary crap to have to deal with.

For those of you that don't know me, I've been running pick up games at Chelsea Piers for years now and everyone's always enjoyed them. This skate should be a great time and I'm really looking forward to next week. Don't worry about your skill or fitness level, we have a very diverse bunch and there are no expectations for anyone.
