Bulletin Board Help

Posting

The NYCGHA Bulletin Board is a read-only board. If you would like to have something posted, please send it to either Jeff Kagan (e-mail) or Webmaster (e-mail) for approval and posting.

Navigation

The Organizational Structure of our Bulletin Board is shown in Image 1. There are several forums and within each forum, there are several topics. Within each topic, there may be several Organizational Structure Image 1: Organizational Structure posts, but our Bulletin Board usually has only one post per topic.

1. Index of All Forums:
You will usually start in the Bulletin Board's homepage, the Index of All Forums, as shown in Image 2, where you will select a forum.

Here is a hint to save mouse movement: the grey word at the left of every submenu throughout the site is clickable. It is circled in Image 2. The link returns you to that section's homepage.

2. Index of Topics in a Forum:
After you select a forum, select one of that forum's topics. For example, within the forum Montreal and Chicago 2006, there are many press releases from each city. You might click on one of these topics. See Image 3.

You could also choose to navigate to the previous forum or the next forum using the links as circled in Image 3. Here is another hint: pause your mouse over the link and a ballon tip (usually a little yellow box) will appear with the name of the previous or next forum. Every link on the site should have a balloon tip.

3. Posts in a Topic:
Now that you have drilled down through the Bulletin Board from forums to topics, you can finally start reading posts. If there happens to be more than one post, they will be stacked one on top of the other, with the oldest post on the top and the newest post on the bottom.

You can navigate to the previous or next topic in the current forum using the links as circled in Image 4. You can return to the Index of Topics in the current forum with the link "This Forum." The link All Forums or the hidden link Bulletin Board bring you all of the way back to where you started, the Bulletin Board's homepage.

You can read about the person who made the post, by clicking on his or her image or name. You can use our Feedback tool to send a message to the poster, by clicking on the "Send E-Mail" link.

You can display posts in a printer-friendly format by clicking the printer icon that appears on the top right of every page in the site. If you print a post (or any page in the site for that matter), your printer will automatically select the printer-friendly format.

Keeping Current

The Bulletin Board includes several tools for keeping current with new posts. The best is the Bulletin Board's RSS newsfeed. With it, you can be notified automatically of new posts without having to check the Board. Please check out our detailed explanation so you can start using RSS.

Bulletin Board Status panel Image 5: Bulletin Board Status

Every page on the site includes a Bulletin Board Status message. It appears in the narrow left-hand column, immediately below the NYCGHA logo and includes a quick link to the newest post in the Bulletin Board. Image 5 shows a sample Bulletin Board Status message.

Search

You can search the Bulletin by clicking on the Search the Bulletin Board link, which is at the bottom right of every page within the Bulletin Board. Note that there is a separate tool for searching the rest of nycgayhockey.org. You reach it with the grey Search link that appears with the copyright notice on the bottom of every page in the site.

Nick Gieschen's background in hockey is a matter of great dispute. Was he a member of the great Soviet teams of the 1970s?
